In the 1880 census my Great Great Grandfather Eli Helmantoler said he was born in Indian. I know that he claimed TN in all previous census entries.  His father was Jacob and his Grandfather was Jacob that show up in the Smith Co Census in 1820.  I have seen early TN maps that show that Indian boarder with the Cherokees was what is now the Jackson county line. Would there be any indian country records in 1818?
